The Joy of Connection

I have the good fortune to teach a small group of senior women through a program called Roots2Rise. They meet every Thursday at 9:30 a.m. for yoga.
I'm new to teaching this group, and this past week, I noticed something meaningful. Seeing their genuine enjoyment as they caught up with one another, I hesitated to call them to the mat to begin class—not wanting to interrupt such rich connection.
It was joyful to watch these women together. That kind of festive energy is something we often associate with young children, not adults. But here it was, vibrant and alive among a group of older women, their laughter and stories filling the room. It was a beautiful reminder that we all live creative lives—and that we never outgrow the need for connection and care for one another.
If you're a senior, I encourage you to reach out to a friend and connect. And if you're a family member wondering whether your loved one is staying socially engaged, go ahead and ask. Encourage them to reach out to others. Chances are, it will put a smile on their face—and yours.
